One of the many challenges in the country is gardening with the ever present frogs, lizards and of course snakes. Under every lettuce, mulch or bushel one can be frequently surprised about what one might find. Most of the time it is a harmless creature that just want to be left in peace to do its thing but occasionally a brown snake, death adder or red belly black will reveal itself startling most gardeners and reminding us that they too share our gardens and spaces. Keeping your veggie gardens close to you and your kitchen as possible (as snakes don’t like noise and coming to close to you) is one permaculture design strategy we use here as well as snake detectors around the home.
