To the gentle sounds of rock clanking and classical music our stone carvers etched their masterpieces into the beautiful Sydney Sandstone last weekend. They learned how to dress rock with different finishes for different purposes and how to make small headstones, special tiles and features. They got a good understanding of how to work with rock and the tools of the trade. Each participant received their own piece of sandstone into which they carved beautiful patterns such as leaves; the eye of Rai, bees; lizards and kookaburras. They now have the basic skills of stone carving they can carry forward with them in their own projects for the future. Our Part Two Stone Carving Workshop in October will extend these skills and techniques to complete this workshop. The pictures show it all.
